Newport Montessori School seeks a Director to provide overall leadership for school operations,
staff, and community. Working in close partnership with the Board of Directors, the Director will
support continuity, collaboration, and long-term sustainability within a Board-governed
structure.
As the school transitions to a Board-governed model, the Director will play a key role in ensuring
day-to-day stability while helping to position the school for its next phase of growth and
leadership.
Leadership & Operations
• Provide overall leadership for school operations, administration, and daily functioning
• Foster a positive, stable school culture for staff, students, and families
• Support enrollment, staffing, scheduling, and operational needs
• Partner closely with the Assistant Director and Executive Assistant
• Maintain regular, visible presence within the school and classrooms
• Step in to support or cover classrooms as needed to ensure continuity of instruction
Staff & Community
• Support and collaborate with teaching staff in alignment with Montessori principles
• Communicate clearly, consistently, and professionally with families
• Serve as a visible, approachable leader within the school community
Board Partnership, Governance & Finance
• Work in close partnership with the Board on strategy, policy, and long-term planning
• Operate within a clearly defined Board-governed structure
• Provide updates and recommendations while maintaining appropriate role boundaries
• Demonstrate financial awareness, including:
• Ability to work with and help develop school budgets
• Understanding of nonprofit financial management and sustainability
• Support fundraising and development efforts, including grant awareness or grant-writing
experience
Required
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Demonstrated teaching experience in an educational setting
• Leadership experience in education (school, nonprofit, or comparable environment)
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated financial awareness and comfort working with budgets
• Ability to lead with clarity, steadiness, and professionalism during periods of transition
• Collaborative leadership style with experience working alongside a governing Board
Strongly Preferred
• Montessori experience or certification (or willingness to pursue)
• Experience overseeing school operations and staff
• Grant writing or development experience
• Experience working within a Board-governed organization
